About This Collection

In 1980, Hugues Costa set out on a journey through India and Nepal with his camera. Over the course of a year, he captured thousands of photographs — images of daily life, sacred places, mountain landscapes, and the people he encountered along the way.

Hugues tragically passed away during his travels in 1981. These photographs are his legacy: a testament to his curiosity, his eye for beauty, and his deep respect for the cultures he encountered.

Many of these images have ethnographic and historical significance, offering a window into life in India and Nepal at the turn of the 1980s. This site is dedicated to sharing his work with the world, so that the beauty he captured might endure.
